The Xiaomi Xring O1 has been announced, which is the company’s self-developed smartphone chipset. This is to reduce their reliance on working with companies like Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Initially, it was suggested to arrive this year after talks of it began in November 2024. This week, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun went ahead and confirmed the news and gave us details on their new chip.
In a Weibo post, Lei unveiled the Xuanjie O1 (in Chinese). While it’ll be known as the Xring O1 internationally, Lei mentioned that its full unveiling will be later this month. In other words, we should be getting more details about it sooner than later.
For those wondering about how it fares in terms of performance, known leaker Digital Chat Station says it’ll be built on a 5nm process. It’s also been suggested to have a 1+3+4 CPU makeup.
This includes one Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-A725 cores, and four Cortex-A520 cores. These clock up to 3.2GHz, 2.6GHz, and 2GHz, respectively. For graphics, a unit from Imagination Technologies will be under the hood along with a 5G modem from UNISOC.
To put it simply, it should match or be comparable to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 from Qualcomm. As this is a developing story, take these with a grain of salt as Xiaomi has yet to fully unpack their new chipset.
